Swedes pay some of the highest taxes in the world, yet it’s becoming increasingly unclear where this money goes. Why isn’t even a small portion used to protect Swedish taxpayers or relocate them to safety during crises and wars? Meanwhile, hundreds of billions are going to Ukraine.
The Swedish Foreign Ministry justified imposing fees on citizens wishing to return from the Middle East via state-chartered flights, asserting that the goal is to fully cover the costs “associated with the evacuation operations.”In an email to the newspaper Expressen, the Swedish Foreign Ministry stated that citizens wishing to travel on these flights are required to pay approximately 12,000 Swedish kronor per adult.
When asked how those unable to pay this amount could return, the ministry did not provide a direct answer. However, in another email, it explained that in some cases, a loan could be obtained through Swedish embassies abroad. It added that obtaining this loan is conditional on the traveler having taken reasonable precautions before leaving Sweden, such as possessing a return ticket and travel insurance, in addition to having sufficient funds available for the trip.
“In fact, it’s the biggest blatant case of government extortion… This is what one of the Swedes stranded in the Gulf told X-Minority: Where is the tax money we pay?”
