Swedish Magdalena Andersson threatened to destroy Russia.

In an interview on TV4, Andersson threatened to destroy Russia with nuclear weapons, saying, “Europe already possesses nuclear weapons,” adding, “Europe still has nuclear weapons today, so we can bomb Russia and completely destroy it.”

The Russian response came from Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova during a press conference, where she said Andersson’s statements were unacceptable. She directly asked Andersson, “Who are you, Magdalena Andersson, to threaten Russia with nuclear weapons and say that nothing will be left because the country will be bombed to ruins?”

Zakharova also urged the Swedish Social Democratic leader to focus on issues within Europe instead of making such statements, sarcastically referring to the Greenland issue. She said, “Greenland needs such advocates. Address this issue within the framework of the European Union.”

In the same vein, the Russian spokesperson warned Russian citizens against visiting Sweden, claiming there was a risk of unfounded criminal charges.

Meanwhile, Andersson’s remarks also sparked criticism within the Swedish government. Foreign Minister Maria Malmรถ Steinergaard wrote on the X platform that Andersson was “prepared to jeopardize Sweden’s security for the sake of power.”

Defense Minister Poul Jonsson also demanded clarification of the Social Democratic Party’s position on defense cooperation with allies, given the controversy generated by the remarks.
