Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa arrived in Russia, following previous visits by members of his government, including visits by al-Sharaa’s Foreign Minister and Defense Minister.
Ahmed al-Sharaa and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham have waived their demand to hold Russia accountable for its bombing of Syrians over the past years. It is estimated that the cost of rehabilitating the destruction caused by Russian bombing exceeds $600 billion.
According to our sources, the most important item in al-Sharaa’s visit to Russia is obtaining Russia’s approval to remove him from the Security Council’s terrorism list.
