This is evidenced by the presence of Abu Muhammad al-Julani ( Ahmed al-Sharaa) who inaugurated the Damascus Book Fair. Books by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the founder of ISIS, were displayed at the fair.
Furthermore, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra), an al-Qaeda affiliate, has seized control of key official institutions, most notably the judiciary. Abu Muhammad al-Julani appointed judges who lacked law degrees; instead, they were sheikhs affiliated with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria.
The latest example is the appointment of Sheikh Hassan al-Aqra’ as head of the military court. Al-Aqra’ is a Sharia judge in Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which has deliberately spread corruption and nepotism in favor of groups affiliated with ISIS and al-Qaeda.
These groups have caused economic collapse, soaring living costs, and the spread of hate speech against various Syrian communities. The bloodshed has not ceased since this group seized power. The international community bears responsibility for what is happening in Syria and its long-term consequences.
The international community has fueled extremist ideology by supporting this regime, creating a model and providing an opportunity for this terrorist ideology to expand and spread.
