Greece set a new record for air traffic, with 5,082 flights crossing its airspace in a single day, the highest number ever recorded in the country’s history.
According to the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, this figure surpassed the previous record of 4,944 flights, and air traffic is expected to continue rising throughout August and into the first two weeks of September, coinciding with the peak tourist season.

Athens International Airport (ATH) specifically averaged around 1,007 daily movements in the early July week (up ~2% year-over-year).
These volumes are driven by strong tourism recovery/growth, with Greece’s airports handling record or near-record passenger numbers (e.g., over 83 million passengers nationwide in 2025, with continued growth into 2026).
