FIFA World cup: What’s actually happening?

There is recent controversy during the 2026 World Cup involving US striker Folarin Balogun. His red card and one-match ban were overturned by FIFA’s disciplinary committee shortly after US President Donald Trump reportedly contacted Infantino about the incident.This led to:Widespread criticism and accusations of political interference (which FIFA rules prohibit).

In addition to serious doubts regarding the Argentina-Egypt match.

Public calls for Infantino to resign from figures like Jeff Stelling, Jürgen Klopp, Gary Lineker, and others.

Speculation and online posts about possible investigations or ways he could be removed.


Infantino has responded by issuing a statement defending the independence of FIFA’s judicial bodies and stating he had no involvement in the decision. He has made it clear he has no plans to step down and intends to run for re-election in.
