10 July 2025- Text adopted- EU parliament , the European Parliament has adopted the resolution P10_TA(2025)0163 following the terror attacks against the Church of Saint Elias in Damascus
The resolution held the authorities in Damascus accountable for failing to prevent attacks on religious minorities and for their inability to provide adequate protection against extremism and terrorism.
A team from X Minorities and Investigative Agency monitored the European Parliament meetings in Brussels and surveyed the opinions of several members of parliament.
There was clear and genuine concern about the ability of the current Damascus regime, which largely consists of extremists and former jihadists known for their hostility toward religious minorities, to offer effective protection to Syrians, including minorities. Some parliament members expressed doubts about the Syrian government’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations.
