According to sources, the Chargé d’Affaires at the German Embassy in Damascus, Markus Hecken, provided clear clarifications regarding flights and banking to Syria, stating that there will be no flights in August and September. He added that both the German and Syrian sides are continuously working to overcome obstacles to resume flights soon.
Hecken noted that the flight ban ends on Monday, July 27, 2026, but the German Aviation Authority has not yet advised airlines to operate direct flights to Syria.
Regarding banking, Sourses said that Hecken indicated that the sanctions have ended, but so far no bank has applied to enter the Syrian market. He mentioned that a German bank—which he did not name—plans to be the first to enter the banking sector.
Sourses said that Hecken stated that German companies want to undertake projects and investments in Syria, but the banking issue remains a major obstacle.
