European Council declared that EU countries stood united and their response helped keep prices down.

The European Council wrote: “EU countries worked tirelessly within the Council to adopt legislation to realise the REPowerEU goals.
For most of the decisions, the Council acted alone as EU legislator, as permitted under Article 122 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU in emergency situations.”
The council referred to the gas situation: they said that the price of gas in the EU decreased.
They saod: In December 2023, one megawatt/hour (MWh) of gas cost โฌ34 โ almost nine times less than it did at the peak of the crisis, when the price reached over โฌ300/MWh.
On the other hand, Bloomberg wrote: European carbon legislation could raise fuel prices by up to 27% across all EU member states over the next decade.
The question: will European carbon legislation raise fuel prices?
In October 2025, several sources indicated that the EU was not limiting increases in petrol and diesel prices by setting direct price caps. Instead, it was working on modifying the mechanisms of the Emissions Trading System 2 (ETS2) to manage price volatility resulting from carbon pricing.
In result European Council unable to guarantee keeping or reducing feul prices.
