The Swedish government’s delayed adolescence
The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to change the spelling of the Ukrainian capital’s name from “Kiev” to “Kyjiv” in all official designations, including the name of the Swedish Embassy in Kyiv, as announced by Foreign Minister Maria Malmäusch.
The Foreign Minister stated that changing the city’s name is a way to demonstrate Sweden’s support for Ukraine.
Ukrainian names for cities
The Minister added that Ukraine has called on other countries to adopt Ukrainian names for cities and regions, instead of names associated with what she described as “Russian colonial legacy.”
This is undoubtedly the Swedish government’s delayed adolescence.
