Corruption in Syria has increased significantly. Reports indicate increased corruption at the governmental and civil society levels. There is also clear corruption at the judicial and security levels. Reports have pointed to suspicious deals that have undermined the administration of justice, and suspicious deals that amount to money laundering linked to quasi-governmental entities.
Corruption has affected the entire transition to democracy, with non-Syrian parties buying official positions and also brokering deals to buy positions for religious organizations.
