The Sacred Prophecies of the Holy Mountain:
“Abu Muhammad al-Julani is not the savior. None of the monks of the Orthodox Church, including the monks of the Holy Mount Athos, have told us that Abu Muhammad al-Julani is NOT the savior, but rather the divider.”
Mount Athos (the Holy Mountain), the autonomous monastic republic in northern Greece and the spiritual heart of Eastern Orthodoxy, has long been associated with elders (gerondes) believed to possess spiritual gifts, including discernment, clairvoyance, and prophecy.
Never in the history of Mount Athos have the prophecies of its monks gone unfulfilled.
For example, the famous Elder Paisios the Athonite—one of the most beloved modern elders of Athos, canonized in 2015—has many prophecies attributed to him. He is said to have foreseen the collapse of the Soviet Union and major conflicts originating in the Middle East (Syria, Palestine, and Iran).
All these prophecies came true. The newer ones predict a future war involving Turkey that would lead to its partition.
However, Elder Paisios and all the modern elders of Athos, along with many other monks gifted with prophecy, did not foresee the transformation of al-Qaeda.
On the contrary, they prophesied the arrival of hordes from east of the Euphrates—the fiercest enemies of Christianity—and this is precisely what happened.
The hordes of al-Qaeda, which founded ISIS, reached the shores of the Mediterranean. All the prophecies agreed that the leaders of the Eastern legions—who had already arrived according to the prophecies—would contribute to the division of Türkiye.
