The Swedish Migration Agency has advised those invited to take the social knowledge test for applicants seeking Swedish citizenship not to register if they cannot demonstrate sufficient Swedish language proficiency, leading many to decline the invitation.
According to a letter seen by The Local, the agency has stipulated that invitees should only take the test if they can prove they are currently residing in Sweden.
“If the applicant cannot demonstrate knowledge of the Swedish language or Swedish society, they should not take the test,” the letter states.
The Swedish Migration Agency is now requiring applicants to submit documentation proving their Swedish language skills via its website.
Reluctance to Register
According to sources, four out of six people who received an invitation to take the test have withdrawn due to the new requirements.
