Brisbane 2032 Olympic, Paralympic logos revealed, include cockatoo

The logos for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics are “inspired by our reef, beaches, hinterland and everything in between” — including a cockatoo.
Organizers revealed the logos with six years until the first Games in Australia since Sydney 2000.

The logos “bring together the places, people and spirit that will take us to 2032,” social media posts read. “And yes… that little character is a cockatoo! Distinctive. Unmistakably Queensland. And just a little bit cheeky. Brisbane, Queensland, Australia – this one’s yours.”
The Australian Museum in Sydney called the pink cockatoo “an outback Australian icon” in 2021.
“Few birds more enliven the monotonous hues of the Australian forest than this beautiful species whose pink-colored wings and flowing crest might have embellished the air of a more voluptuous region,” according to an article. “Pink cockatoos are found in low densities across the arid and semi-arid inland of Australia, surviving in some of Australia’s harshest habitats.”
Brisbane, Australia’s third-most populous city after previous Olympic hosts Sydney and Melbourne, was awarded the 2032 Games in 2021.
For the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the logo was the figure of an athlete with distinct Australian shapes and colors, including that of a boomerang and the Sydney Opera House.
