The Boston Bruins lost last night, but can end the 2026-27 preseason on a high note tonight in the nation’s capital.
The Philadelphia Flyers shut out a Bruins roster made up largely of players fighting for a spot in Boston or destined for Providence. Joseph Woll posted the shutout for the Flyers, but Michael DiPietro impressed, even in the loss, making 26 saves on 28 shots. The Bruins traveled home after the game last night and will travel to and from Washington today.
They also sent Simon Zajicek down to Providence, leaving three goaltenders in Boston.
Elsewhere around the league, the Blue Jackets finally signed Adam Fantilli. The San Jose Sharks roasted the Anaheim Ducks yesterday with a 10-goal showing. There is a trade board, and the Bruins have a center listed among the 16 players on the board. The Canadiens are interested in one of the Jets’ top centers, and the league is consolidating the two iterations of the Jets’ franchise into the current one.
There are also 30 players on waivers.

BRUINS LOSE: The Bruins were shut out by Joseph Woll (28 saves) and the Philadelphia Flyers last night. Matvei Michkov and Cole Knuble were the goal scorers for the Flyers, while none of the Bruins could solve the former Maple Leaf goaltender.
Trevor Zegras got a two-minute minor for an equipment violation. The violation? His jersey was tucked in.

POSTGAME: Marco Sturm took some positives from last night’s game. There may have been a mismatch, especially when looking at the rosters side by side, but the Bruins held their own. Michael DiPietro made 26 saves, and he’s been using the preseason games to adjust to the next level.
GAMEDAY: That’s not all. The Bruins are back today, this time in Washington, DC. The Bruins went the distance with the Washington Capitals during their first meeting this preseason, with James Hagens scoring the shootout winner. The Bruins roster is expected to be NHL-heavy.
CAMP SCHEDULE: The Bruins will not have a morning skate this morning. Saturday is a scheduled off day, and they will practice Sunday morning.

NHL teams must submit their rosters by 5:00 PM ET Monday. Teams have to waive players by Sunday at 2:00 PM in order for them to clear before the deadline.

ESPN: The Columbus Blue Jackets ended the Adam Fantilli saga. Yesterday, the Blue Jackets announced a six-year, $82.5M deal ($13.75M AAV) for the 21-year-old center. Fantilli is coming off a 59-point (24-35–59) season, and he has 140 points (67-73–140) in 213 career games.
He missed the first week of training camp while the two sides worked on the deal.
San Jose Hockey Now: 1…2… 10. The San Jose Sharks put up 10 goals on the Anaheim Ducks yesterday. Yes, the Ducks dressed an AHL-heavy lineup, but 10 is 10. Ivar Stenberg scored a hat trick, while both Mason Marchment and Igor Chernyshov added two. Keep the change, you filthy animal.
Sportsnet: Trade board! Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos listed five “top trade candidates” along with 11 more players on a “trade watch list.” Pavel Zacha, with his expiring contract, made it to the watch list, with teams like Nashville, Columbus, Philadelphia, and Montreal “watching closely.”
Montreal Hockey Now: They are “watching closely” on Zacha, but the Canadiens also appear to be interested in Mark Scheifele. They’ve already brought in one “villain” this summer in Chris Kreider, but this one is different because Jake Evans is still in Montreal. Marc Dumont dives into the Scheifele report and looks at it from a pure hockey standpoint.
Sportsnet: Winnipeg Jets’ franchise history will have a different ring to it. The NHL is consolidating both eras of the Jets into this iteration of the team. Dale Hawerchuk is, once again, the franchise’s leading goal scorer (329 goals, 929 points).
The statistical history of the inactive Arizona Coyotes franchise will only consider 1996-2024.
Forever Blueshirts: The Rangers have a few decisions to make ahead of their visit to Boston on Tuesday, including whether to risk losing Dylan Garand to waivers or keep three goalies. Mike Sullivan knows who needs waivers and who does not, and said, “There’s always some influence there. There just is.”
Don Sweeney touched on waivers when asked about both Frederic Brunet and Matt Poitras before training camp:
“Waivers is an example of when a player, ultimately, probably gets a longer test drive in the NHL. In a perfect world, that’s going to be with us in those two cases. But you know that exists coming up. So the competition, as I referenced when I first started, we’re excited about what that looks like in camp. Those two players will present challenges to incumbent guys or guys that have been here, and we just have to make the right decision. Ultimately, you always want the best player.”
New Jersey Hockey Now: The New Jersey Devils are rolling out new food options with a local feel to them. Daniel Amoia was on hand to try some, and while I didn’t read anything as extreme as Fenway’s “Lobstah Poutine,” there are some good options to try if you’re ever going to a game in Newark.
