Achane, Mayfield, Jefferson among players injured in NFL's Week 3

Sept. 28 (UPI) — De’Von Achane, Baker Mayfield and Justin Jefferson were among the NFL players injured in Week 3. Injured NFL players will be evaluated this week to determine the extent of their injuries and potential timelines for return.
Breece Hall, Mike Evans, Jalen Coker, Travis Etienne, Trent Williams and Brian Burns were among other notable players hurt through Sunday’s wave of games.
Achane sustained what the Miami Dolphins said was a knee injury in the first quarter of a 24-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in Miami Gardens, Fla. He did not return.
Coach Jeff Hafley said “it does not sound very optimistic,” when asked about the injury at his postgame news conference. Achane logged three carries for 17 yards. He was replaced by Ollie Gordon II, who totaled 55 yards from scrimmage and a score off 20 touches.
Wide receiver Malik Washington also worked out of the backfield after Achane’s departure. Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright, who is dealing with a stinger/foot injury, was inactive in Week 3.

The Dolphins (0-3) will face the Minnesota Vikings (3-0) in Week 4.

Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson hurt his ankle in the first quarter of a 23-16 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday in Tampa, Fla. He was ruled out in the second half. Jefferson totaled two catches for 32 yards.

Tight end Josh Oliver (arm) and cornerback Charles Demmings (hamstring) also sustained injuries. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said Jefferson “tried to work through it” and was close to returning. He will be further evaluated this week.
Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison hauled in five catches for 90 yards and a score. Fellow starter Jauan Jennings caught a 1-yard pass. Tai Felton and Myles Price are the other wide receivers on the Vikings roster.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield dislocated his right thumb in the fourth quarter. Coach Todd Bowles said the Buccaneers would receive the results of an MRI Monday.
Wide receiver Jalen McMillan hurt his knee in the first quarter and did not return. He did not log a catch.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans sustained a rib strain in the second quarter of a 36-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Offensive tackle Trent Williams (stinger) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad) also exited with injuries. Evans caught three passes for 34 yards.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jalen Coker sustained a quad injury in the third quarter of a loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday in Cleveland. He logged two catches for 18 yards prior to his exit. The Panthers also lost cornerback Mike Jackson to a groin injury.
The Panthers (1-2) will host the Detroit Lions (2-1) in Week 4.
New York Jets running back Breece Hall hurt his thigh in the fourth quarter of a 31-24 loss to the Lions on Sunday in Detroit. Left guard Dylan Parham sustained a knee injury.
Hall logged 55 yards from scrimmage off 16 touches. Backup Braelon Allen totaled 17 yards from scrimmage off seven touches. Isaiah Davis and Kene Nwangwu are the Jets’ other running backs. Davis played 16 snaps on special teams. Nwangwu was inactive in Week 3.
The New Orleans Saints lost running back Travis Etienne appeared to sustain a leg injury in the third quarter of a 35-27 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. He totaled 70 yards from scrimmage off 15 touches before his exit. Backup running back Alvin Kamara totaled 41 yards from scrimmage off 10 touches.
Fellow running back Kendre Miller logged six touches for 19 yards for the Saints.
Saints linebacker Pete Werner (stinger) also exited early during the loss. Coach Kellen Moore did not provide updates on the injuries at his postgame news conference.
New York Giants pass rusher Brian Burns injured a knee in the fourth quarter of a win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J. Giants coach John Harbaugh said “there is some hope there” when asked about Burns injury, but said he would wait to see the results of an MRI.
The Titans lost guard Fernando Carmona to an ankle injury.
The Giants (2-1) will host the Arizona Cardinals (1-2) in Week 4. The Titans (0-3) will battle the Baltimore Ravens (2-1).
Ravens centers Ethan Pocic and Jovaughn Gwyn sustained respective knee and ankle injuries during a win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro.
Carson Vinson, Andrew Vorhees, Emery Jones Jr. and Carson Vinson are among the Ravens’ backup offensive linemen.
Patriots defensive lineman Christian Barmore sustained a shoulder injury during a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Right guard Greg Van Roten hurt a thigh.
The Patriots (1-2) will face the Buffalo Bills (3-0) on Sunday in Orchard Park, N.Y.
Bills cornerback Christian Benford (toe) exited early during a win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday in Orchard Park. The Chargers lost cornerback Donte Jackson to a concussion during the loss.

Cincinnati Bengals safety Bryan Cook (ankle), Houston Texans defensive tackle Mario Edwards (knee), Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jack Bech (arm), Los Angeles Rams tight end Terrance Ferguson (ankle) and Washington Commanders linebacker Leo Chenal (neck) and guard Lucas Patrick (ankle) were among the other NFL players injured in Week 3.
The Chicago Bears (1-1) will host the Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) in the NFL’s Week 3 finale at 8:15 p.m. EDT Monday in Chicago.
