Lille’s Ayase Ueda sustains injury in Arsenal defeat

Ayase Ueda (28) sustained an injury during Lille OSC’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, as per a report from L’Équipe.

The Japan international was a summer signing from Feyenoord. He was brought in order to share the minutes with Olivier Giroud, who has publicly stated that he is highly likely to retire at the end of the season. Hamza Igamane is the other recognised senior option in the squad, however, he is recovering from an ACL injury that he sustained back in February during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

Ueda’s absence would be a blow to Lille, however, it may become a reality. He gave way for Giroud in the 78th minute on Tuesday night, with LOSC already three goals down. L’Équipe report that he hobbled back onto the team bus and is suffering from an injury to his left heel. He will undergo tests later on Wednesday.
