Kallie Humphries has admitted her stance against transgender athletes competing in women’s sports has created a “tense” atmosphere with some teammates.
The three-time Olympic gold medalist, 41, signed with the activist sportswear company XX-XY Athletics in April, making her point of view very clear.
She has also backed President Donald Trump‘s agenda of banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.

Previously, Humphries made waves in her career as one of the first women to pilot a mixed-gender team in a four-person bobsled competition. She was also the first woman to drive an all-female team against men in a four-person World Cup bobsled race.
But her latest decisions and views have not been universally accepted.
“I have teammates within bobsled, I have teammates within Team USA who believe in a different side, for sure,” Humphries said in an interview with Fox News published on Tuesday, October 13. “For sure, it’s created awkward, tense moments. I think it’s created tense moments even within friendships that were there.”

The athlete said conversations about the topic had the potential to become heated but insisted many fellow athletes had maintained a respectful approach, even when on opposing sides of the argument.
She added, “I think that while it creates a bit of tension, no one’s willing to cross the line. It doesn’t make you a bad person because you believe something different than somebody else.”
Humphries is married to former USA bobsledder Travis Armbruster and the pair share two-year-old son Aulden. She insisted her only aim was for female athletes to have the chance to enjoy a career similar to her own.
“I’ve had these opportunities because it has remained for biological females. And that’s something that I believe in and that I’m going to push,” she concluded.
