Finishing strong: Evenson, Winkler score 4 goals each; Glacier soccer sweeps Crosstown

Brecken Evenson and Gracie Winkler made their mark in Crosstown soccer Tuesday.
It took Evenson less than 10 seconds.
The Glacier strikers each scored four goals as the Wolfpack claimed a sweep of Flathead at Kidsport in the final regular season game for both teams.
The boys took an 8-1 victory while the Wolfpack girls won 10-1.
Evenson got things rolling straight away for Glacier, scoring just nine seconds into the game to put the Wolfpack boys in front of the Braves.
“(The opening kick) bounced off a player and I took a touch and shot it,” Evenson said. “It was nothing drawn up. It was just in the moment.”
His second goal came soon after, doubling the advantage in the third minute as Glacier looked ready to roll past Flathead.
Evenson completed his hat trick in the 30th minute to make it 3-0, but the Braves weren’t going to roll over.
Flathead had two chances in the opening half hour but weren’t able to put a shot on net until Gavin Hammer slotted one into the back of the net three minutes before halftime. It was the first goal for the Flathead boys in a Crosstown matchup since 2022.
“We rebounded pretty well in the first half and created a few chances and battened down things a bit in the back,” Braves coach John Lacey said. “Just really proud of our defense for getting us through that first stretch.”
The momentum was short-lived for Flathead though, as Evenson made it four in the first half with a quick answer on the other end.
One minute later Oliver Poitra added another for Glacier to take a 5-1 advantage into the half.
“We came out strong and definitely played and communicated as a team today,” Wolfpack captain Isaac Weaks said.
The second half started much like the first as Madrid Stephan scored two minutes into the period, placing a shot into the lower left corner of the goal. Stephan also added three assists in the game.
A minute later, Bridger Wilson scored nearly a carbon copy of Stephan’s goal.
Zander Schmautz capped off the scoring, converting a penalty later in the half.
Owen Doepke made nine saves in the game for Flathead, including some acrobatic stops to keep Glacier off the scoreboard late.
In the girls game, Addison Brisendine started the scoring two minutes in for Glacier, but the Wolfpack couldn’t find any more separation early.
In fact, Flathead found the back of the net next as Camas Bushnell took advantage of a spilled rebound from Aerin Todd and put it in the back of the net to tie the game at one.
“We started off slow and a little bit on our heels,” Winkler said. “The 1-1 tie really woke us up a little bit. Throughout the year, (Glacier coach Ryan) Thompson has taught us that when we face adversity we need to rise above it, and it is okay if we face adversity because that happens in the game and in life too. Rising above things is good and I think we really pushed through.”
Again, it was not long before momentum shifted the way of the Wolfpack.
Winkler netted her first goal two minutes later on a breakaway to put the Wolfpack ahead 2-1. She doubled the Wolfpack advantage 10 minutes later with an unassisted tally off a corner.
Bailee Dahlman made it 4-1 in the 31st minute and Glacier added three more goals before the break, one each from Lucy Holloway, Winkler and Brisendine.
Out of the half, Winkler scored her fourth to make it 8-1 in the 45th minute.
Caitryn Vander Vloedt and Portia Hammer added second half goals to secure the scoreline.
The Glacier teams are now locked into the third seed for the playoffs on both the boys and girls side, with first-round matchups expected next Tuesday.
The Wolfpack boys will meet with Missoula Big Sky, while the girls face Helena Capital.
“We are headed into this next game with a lot of confidence and are ready to beat Big Sky,” Evenson said.
“It doesn’t matter what seed we are, when this team is at our best we can make a lot of noise in the playoffs,” Thompson said.
Times and location of the games will be announced in the coming days.
