Who are the Savannah Bananas?
The Savannah Bananas baseball league was created in Savannah, Georgia, by Jesse Cole, who wanted to make baseball more entertaining for players and fans. What started as an idea around 2016 quickly grew into a league of six teams.
There are 11 unique Banana Ball rules, and teams perform trick plays, random dance breaks and take part in other fan engagement.
The league includes six teams: the Savannah Bananas, Party Animals, Firefighters, Texas Tailgaters, Loco Beach Coconuts and Indianapolis Clowns.
What makes Banana Ball different from baseball?
Banana Ball includes a number of rules that differ from other baseball leagues and teams, including:
Once per game, teams can have any hitter hit anywhere in the lineup
A two-hour time limit
No stepping out of the batter’s box
No bunting
Batters can steal first base, typically on a wild pitch or pass ball
No walks allowed, on ball four batters can advance as many bases as they wish before every defensive player touches the ball
No mound visits allowed
If a fan catches a foul ball, it’s an out
A showdown tiebreaker that removes most of the defense, and may include bases loaded
Each team can challenge one ruling by umpires
