400 appearances: Willi Orbán continues to make RBL history
400 appearances in an RBL shirt! By featuring in our home win against FC Augsburg, Willi Orbán has reached the milestone of 400 competitive appearances for the Red Bulls.Only Yussuf Poulsen has made more appearances for RBL, with the club’s all-time record holder having played 425 games – a tally Willi could surpass before the end of the season. Our number 4 has been at the club since 2015, becoming a true RBL legend and playing a key role in some of the greatest achievements in our history. We take a look back at some of his most memorable moments.
From promotion to the Champions League
Willi joined RBL from 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the summer of 2015 and helped the Red Bulls win promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016 in his very first season. Just a year later, the centre-back was part of the side that finished second in the Bundesliga, securing our first-ever qualification for the Champions League.Willi was quick to make his mark on Europe’s biggest stage, too. On 17th October 2017, he opened the scoring in our 3-2 home win over FC Porto, helping RBL secure the first Champions League victory in the club’s history.
Two DFB-Pokal triumphs and a Supercup – three trophies with RBL
Among the highlights of Willi’s RBL career are, of course, the club’s first major trophies. In 2022, he helped the Red Bulls lift the DFB-Pokal for the first time, before successfully defending the title a year later.Willi also made a decisive contribution on the road to that second triumph. In the 2023 quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund, he scored in stoppage time to seal a 2-0 victory and send RBL through to the semi-finals.A 3-0 victory over Bayern in the 2023 Supercup then brought the third trophy in the club’s history.
Our defensive leader. Our number 4.
Willi has led by example on the pitch for years, taking responsibility and setting the standard for his teammates. His experience, strength in the challenge and commanding presence have made him a player the team can always rely on.400 competitive appearances for RBL is a remarkable milestone for a player who has been at the heart of the club’s journey from the 2. Bundesliga to the Champions League.Congratulations on 400 appearances, Willi!
